Brand and design systems

A visual system that survives a website, a deck, an ad set and a product screen, with the files and rules that keep it from drifting.

Why this line exists

A brand is not a logo, it is the set of decisions that make the twentieth asset look like it came from the same company as the first. We build the decisions, then the components, then the files your team works in. The measure is whether someone who was not in the room can make something on-brand next quarter.

What an engagement delivers

  • An identity with the reasoning written next to it, not just a folder of exports
  • A type and colour system checked for contrast, so accessibility is settled at the design stage
  • Page designs at mobile and desktop, specified closely enough to hand to engineers
  • A component library your designers and developers both work from
  • Templates for the assets you make most often: decks, one-pagers, social, ad creative
  • Source files and full ownership of everything produced

What is in scope

  • Audit of what you have now, including what is worth keeping
  • Art direction routes, presented with the argument for each rather than a mood board vote
  • Identity build: logo system, type scale, colour roles, spacing, motion rules where relevant
  • Contrast checks on every text and background pair, to WCAG AA at minimum
  • Responsive design for the pages in scope, from 360px up
  • Component library in the design tool your team already uses
  • Build-ready specification and design review during engineering
  • Brand guidelines written for the people who will use them, not for a shelf

How we deliver it

01

Read the room

Before anything gets written or designed, we go and find out what is actually true: what you sell, who buys it, what they compared it to, and where the current work is losing them.

02

Decide what you are saying

Positioning is a decision, not a discovery. We put the options in front of the people who can settle it, argue the trade-offs, and write down what was chosen so the rest of the work has something to be consistent with.

03

Build the system

Then the work gets made: the identity, the pages, the collateral, the creative, the sequences. Built as a system with reusable parts, because you will need the twentieth asset as much as the first.

04

Run it, then read the numbers

The system goes live on a weekly rhythm and we report what it did, including the parts that did not work. If a channel or a message is not earning its place, we recommend stopping it rather than quietly continuing.

Ways to start, and what they cost

Ranges in USD, and an order of magnitude rather than a quote. They are published so you can rule us in or out before spending a meeting finding out, which is a different thing from a price list. What moves a piece of work up a range is the number of audiences, the number of products that have to be described, how many people have to agree, and whether there is a build attached.

Positioning sprint

3 to 4 weeks

$12k to $20k

Interviews, a competitive read, the positioning decision and the message architecture, plus copy for the pages that carry the most weight. You own the output whether or not we do anything else.

Brand and web build

6 to 10 weeks

$35k to $75k

Identity, design system, site design and build-ready specification, with the templates for the assets your team makes every week. Engineering can be ours or yours.

Channel build and run

Build, then rolling with a 3 month minimum

$6k to $15k per month

One or two channels set up properly with offers, landing pages, creative and measurement, then run and reported weekly. We start narrow on purpose.

Embedded growth pod

Rolling, minimum 3 months

$12k to $22k per month

A small standing team across positioning, design and channels, working to your priorities on a weekly cadence, with everything documented as it is built.

What the figures exclude, and the questions they usually produce, are answered in full on the services page.

Questions we get asked

Can you build the site as well as design it?

Yes. Thinkscoop builds software, so the front-end can be built by the same company that designed it. If you have your own engineers we will hand over a specification and review the build instead, which is usually cheaper for you.

Do you do a rebrand if we just need a website?

Not automatically. Plenty of companies need a better site and a tidier type scale, not a new identity. We will tell you which one you are, and we would rather do the smaller piece well.

What design tools do you work in?

We work in whatever your team already uses, so that the handover is not a migration. If you have no preference we will pick one and say why.

How do you handle accessibility?

Contrast ratios are computed during design, not audited afterwards, and every text pair we ship meets WCAG AA. Focus states, keyboard order and reduced-motion behaviour are specified as part of the design rather than left to the developer.

Do we own the files?

Yes. Source files, fonts we licensed on your behalf, and full ownership of the work. Nothing is held back to make a retainer harder to end.

What this line hands over

One of the artefacts, in full.

The test a design system has to pass is whether somebody who was not in the room can make the twentieth asset and have it look like the first. This sheet is our own components, rendering the classes this site ships, at the sizes it ships them.

what we turn down

A budget split six ways teaches you nothing.

The dark plate is the same three classes as the light one. Nothing was redrawn for it: --ink becomes the ground, the copy token swaps to --on-dark-mut and the accent swaps to --accent-lit, which is the variant that clears AA on this ground. That swap is what makes a system a system rather than two sets of assets.

The same tokens applied across the surfaces a company actually makes every week: a control, a label and heading pair, a list row, the colour strip, a rule, a dark plate. Nothing on this sheet is a mock-up. Every plate renders the class this site ships, at the size it ships at, which is the test a brand system has to pass: can somebody who was not in the room make the twentieth asset and have it look like the first.
